Sora
Tried ItWorth Trying
Record a quick clip, say a few numbers, and Sora makes wild video from it. Fun novelty. Novelty wore off fast.

What I use it for
Text-to-video generation
Where it shines
- The input method was magic — record a quick selfie clip saying a few numbers and the app generates video from it. Incredibly fun.
- Output quality was impressive for the time. Good potential for B-roll and professional video workflows.
Where it struggles
- Novelty wore off fast. After the initial wow, there wasn't a strong recurring use case.
- Clips are very short. Consistency between clips is a major challenge.
- No clear path from fun experiment to actual production use in my workflow.
Notes
Sora was a really fun experiment. The way you record a quick clip saying a few numbers and the app generates all kinds of video was incredible. But the novelty wore off fast. It seemed like a great way to get B-roll or fit into a high-end professional video workflow, but clips are very short and consistency between clips is a major challenge. No strong recurring use case. Makes sense that OpenAI is reconsidering the standalone product.
How to try it
If it's still available, try the selfie video generation feature. Record a clip, let it transform. You'll see the potential and the limitations in the same session.
