Nano Banana
Part of my image gen stack. Built InstaElfie.com around it. Google's model pushes the state of the art.
What I use it for
Where it shines
- Creates striking images. Good prompt adherence and creative output.
- Powered by Google's image model, which has genuinely pushed the state of the art forward.
- Flexible enough for website assets, personal fun (turning the girls into animals and cartoons), and a full-stack app experiment.
Where it struggles
- On any given use case, either Nano Banana or ChatGPT images (DALL-E) can win. No clear permanent leader.
- ChatGPT is back to being my go-to for image gen because it's most integrated in my workflows and tends to create more stable images.
Notes
Nano Banana is a real part of my image gen stack. Built InstaElfie.com around it during the holidays — a playful full-stack experiment that guides users to create holiday-themed images. As a business, it's just a UI wrapper around Nano Banana. But the image quality is legit. I use it for website assets and personal images — changing the girls into animals or cartoons. Interesting how both Nano Banana and DALL-E perform well but on any given use case either can win. Nano Banana took a huge lead when it came out, but ChatGPT is back to my go-to for image generation — most integrated in my workflows, more stable images with good prompt adherence. Google has really pushed the state of the art forward with this model.
How to try it
Generate a few images and compare to ChatGPT's image generation. The style and quality differences show up quickly. Try something detailed.

Dramatic, anime-adjacent art style. Impressive but not what I needed. Leonardo beat it on prompt adherence and realism.

Was my go-to for image generation. Consistency tools are still strong. Stack moved on.
Canva
Canva promises better UX than Photoshop. Hasn't delivered on that promise for me. AI image gen is making deep editing less necessary anyway.
